A strongly shaped and sculptural vase from the Sointu series, designed by Tapio Wirkkala for Finnish Iittala. The vase features a rectangular profile and thick, clear glass that refracts light beautifully. The surface is characterized by a distinct, irregular vertical relief reminiscent of ice or bark, a hallmark of Finnish glass design from this era. A striking interior piece that looks just as good on its own as filled with cut flowers.
The story of this object
Tapio Wirkkala was one of the leading figures in Finnish design and often drew inspiration directly from Nordic nature. The Sointu series is an excellent example of his ability to translate the organic shapes of ice and water into strict, modern glass art.
