Danish earthenware with fish motif and Persia glaze
VAT included. Sold under the margin scheme for second-hand goods — no VAT is shown separately.
An expressive and organically shaped ceramic dish designed by Marianne Starck for the historic Bornholm pottery Michael Andersen & Søn. The dish is adorned with an abstract motif in relief, framed by a deep cobalt blue rim and brick-red details. The light areas are coated with Starck's signature Persia glaze, a deliberately and beautifully crackled glaze that gives the piece vibrant depth. An excellent example of Danish ceramic art from the 1960s, equally decorative on a table or displayed on a shelf. There is a tiny repair with a small paint loss, which is barely visible (see last photo).
The story of this object
Marianne Starck was the artistic director of Michael Andersen & Søn from 1955 and for several decades onward. It was under her leadership that the famous Persia glaze was developed—an innovative crackle technique awarded a gold medal at the Brussels World's Fair in 1958, becoming one of the workshop's primary signatures.
