Rustic Danish ceramic design from Bornholm

A charming night candle holder in sturdy stoneware from the renowned Danish Søholm. The model, belonging to the Erica series, featuring its characteristic handle and generous drip tray, has a beautifully mottled glaze in natural tones with hand-painted details in blue and brown. The underside and handle are left in raw, rustic chamotte, creating a fine tactile contrast to the glossy top. An atmospheric interior detail designed to accommodate a pillar candle.
The story of this object
Søholm Keramik on Bornholm was founded in 1835 and was one of Denmark's most prominent factories until its closure in 1996. During the 1960s and 70s, they produced large quantities of robust and well-designed stoneware that today is highly appreciated among collectors of Scandinavian mid-century design.
