An expressive small stoneware dish from renowned Søholm on Bornholm. The dish offers a beautiful tactile contrast between the exterior in raw, undecorated chamotte clay and the glossy, light glaze on the inside. The hand-painted abstract decoration in earthy tones of green and brown is beautifully punctuated by deep blue details, framed by a dark glazed rim. An excellent example of Scandinavian 1960s ceramics, perfect as a decorative eye-catcher or a small serving dish.
The story of this object
Søholm was the oldest pottery factory on Bornholm, founded back in 1835, and during the second half of the 20th century became deeply associated with the rustic Danish stoneware tradition. Their pieces from the 1960s and 1970s are often characterized precisely by the balance between rough clay and vibrant, bold glazes.
