Sculptural Ceramic Lamp Base from Ceroc, Monaco

A colorful marine diorama with lustre glaze

£61.00

VAT included. Sold under the margin scheme for second-hand goods — no VAT is shown separately.

A spectacular and colorful lamp base from Monegasque maker Ceroc, shaped like a large open clam shell. Inside sits a detailed marine diorama with three-dimensional fish, corals, and sea anemones, resting on a base adorned with starfish and crabs. The rich lustre glaze in iridescent shades of blue, green, and purple contrasts beautifully with the shell's gilded outer rim. The lamp base currently lacks electrical wiring and therefore works equally well as an eye-catching standalone sculpture or as an atmospheric lighting project for the handy person.

The story of this object

During the 1950s and 60s, the French Riviera and Monaco were a hub for imaginative sea-inspired ceramics. Workshops such as Ceroc created expressive pieces that captured the Mediterranean palette and fauna, often through the use of iridescent lustre glazes.
