The story of this object
In the second half of the 20th century, it was common for Chinese export manufacturers to create pieces inspired by other popular Asian craft traditions. Large decorative floor vases like this often borrowed motifs and techniques, such as raised enamel decoration, from Japanese aesthetic ideals to meet the Western market's growing interest in Oriental interior decor.
