A distinctive stoneware pitcher from the Zenit series, designed by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand in the 1960s. The pitcher features an olive green, slightly mottled, and glossy glaze that highlights the tactile relief decor on the body. The design, a stylized sun or flower motif, gives the piece a rustic yet refined character. An excellent example of Swedish ceramic art from the late twentieth century, as beautiful as a standalone art object as it is a functional vase or pitcher.
The story of this object
Gunnar Nylund was artistic director at Rörstrand and a leading figure in Swedish ceramics. The Zenit series, with its robust shape and characteristic relief pattern, is typical of the late 1960s fascination with nature-inspired, tactile surfaces and earthy colors.
