A beautiful baluster-shaped vase crafted in the traditional technique of cloisonné, where an intricate network of metal wires is filled with colored enamel. The vase is adorned with a rich, overall floral decoration in muted shades against a dark background, elegantly framed by metal borders at the rim and foot. The underside is covered in a turquoise blue enamel highly characteristic of Chinese craftsmanship.

The story of this object

Cloisonné is an advanced and ancient enamel technique that was refined and gained widespread popularity in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The technique requires great craftsmanship, as thin metal wires are soldered onto a metal body to create small compartments (cloisons), which are then filled with enamel paste, fired multiple times, and finally polished to a smooth finish.
