A decorative hand-painted baluster-shaped porcelain vase from China. The item is characterized by a light off-white base with a distinct crackle glaze, over which a traditional polychrome floral decoration has been applied in bright shades of red, green, and yellow. The mouth and base of the vase are framed by strict geometric borders that create a fine contrast to the organic floral pattern.

The story of this object

The city of Jingdezhen in China has for centuries been one of the world's most significant centers for ceramic production, often called the 'Porcelain Capital'. During the mid-20th century, large quantities of export porcelain were produced there, combining older style ideals, such as the crackle glaze (Ge-type), with enamel decoration, which became immensely popular in Western interiors.
