Baluster-shaped porcelain floor vase with a height of approx. 24.4 in (62 cm). The vase features a flared rim and rich polychrome decoration with gold accents set against a partially black background. The ornament consists of detailed cartouches depicting Asian figure scenes in a garden setting, surrounded by fans, floral patterns, and geometric borders. A highly decorative example of 20th-century Asian export porcelain.
The story of this object
During the second half of the 20th century, large, eye-catching porcelain pieces were produced in China for export to the West. The design often borrowed freely from various Asian traditions, particularly the detailed Japanese Satsuma style, to create grand interior decor statements.
